IQrouter Pro - Frequently Asked Questions
Q- Where are the tech-specs for the Pro?
A- They are found mid-way down the IQrouter Pro description page.
Q- Will the Pro handle symmetrical gigabit lines?
A- Yes, and more, as it has a powerful multi-core x86 CPU and can shape traffic in both directions (simultaneously) at up to 2+Gbps speed.
Q- Why does the Pro not include WiFi?
A- Most large home and business deployments already have some form of distributed, managed WiFi already deployed, such as a Mesh system or managed AP’s. So no need for further non-integrated WiFi.
If you want to add a simple access point, managed WiFi or Mesh system to your Pro, please see our WiFi recommendations page.
Q- Does the Pro support outbound VPN to encapsulate all or portions of the traffic from the local LAN to the Internet?
A- Yes, The included Wireguard VPN software can also be configured for other Wireguard-compatible VPN services. We also support legacy OpenVPN.
Selectively bypass the VPN tunnel for non-critical data, such as streaming video services, with the VPN VPN Policy Based Routing service.
Q- I see the Pro includes SSD data storage; what can it be used for?
A- The storage partition reached as “/data” can be used for persisting any user-defined storage from optional utilities and applications, such as per device traffic usage statistics.
Information stored there will persist across firmware upgrades or resets to factory defaults.
A small portion of that storage is reserved for IQrouter usage and should not be removed or modified.
Q- The Pro has both USB and HDMI connections; what are those for?
A- Those are used to access the IQrouter console for configuration or recovery if the LAN-based path is not working due to a misconfiguration.
Connecting a monitor via HDMI and a keyboard/mouse via USB and then booting will show the low-level Linux kernel boot messages on the display. Pressing the ‘enter’ key once the boot has been completed will bring up the command line interface (CLI). Now, you can run commands and edit configuration files using the included nano app or using UCI methods.
Q- Can I add OpenWRT packages to the Pro configuration?
A- Yes, in the advanced menus under System->Software, or via the CLI, you can update the packages list (opkg update) and then install utilities (opkg install packagename).
Added packages are listed out to a file during firmware upgrades, and they can be restored with a simple script invocation via the command line. See this article for how.
Note: These added packages are unsupported and may cause the default configuration to no longer work correctly. A reset to factory (see the Quick Install guide) may be necessary.
